Customers can see exactly what they’re getting without having to open the package.
There are a few different ways to use blister packaging for custom stamped parts. If the parts are small and lightweight, a single – cavity blister can be used. This is ideal for parts like washers or small brackets. For multiple parts, a multi – cavity blister can be designed. You can have different compartments for each part, which helps with organization.
Another benefit of blister packaging is protection. The plastic blister acts as a barrier against dust, dirt, and minor impacts. It’s also tamper – evident. If the plastic seal is broken, the customer knows something might be up.
However, blister packaging does have its drawbacks. It can be a bit pricier, especially for large or oddly – shaped parts. The tooling required to create the plastic blisters can also be expensive for one – off or small – batch orders.
2. Tray Packaging
Tray packaging is another popular option, especially for bulk orders. We use trays made of materials like plastic, foam, or cardboard. The trays are designed with compartments or cavities to hold each custom stamped part securely.
Plastic trays are durable and can be reused in some cases. They come in different sizes and thicknesses. We can get them customized with specific cavity shapes to match the parts. For example, if we have a set of complex – shaped gears, the plastic tray can be molded to hold each gear precisely.
Foam trays are great for delicate parts. They provide excellent cushioning. The foam can be cut or molded to create a snug fit for the stamped parts. This is really useful for parts that are prone to scratching or damage during transit.
Cardboard trays are more budget – friendly. They’re lightweight and can be easily recycled. We usually line the cardboard trays with a protective layer, like a thin plastic film, to add a bit more protection.
One of the main advantages of tray packaging is that it keeps the parts organized. When the customer receives the package, they can easily access each part without having to rummage through a box. It also reduces the risk of parts banging into each other during shipping.
But tray packaging can take up more space compared to some other methods. And if not designed properly, the parts might still move around a bit in the trays.
3. Box Packaging
Good old box packaging is a classic. We use boxes made of cardboard or corrugated cardboard. For smaller custom stamped parts, we can use small cardboard boxes. These are easy to label and stack.
When using box packaging, we often add some form of internal protection. This could be bubble wrap, packing peanuts, or shredded paper. Bubble wrap is my personal favorite. It provides a layer of cushioning that helps absorb shocks during shipping.

However, box packaging might not offer the best visibility. The customer has to open the box to see the parts. And if the internal protection isn’t done right, the parts could still get damaged inside the box.
4. Poly Bag Packaging
Poly bag packaging is simple and cost – effective. We use clear or opaque plastic poly bags to package the custom stamped parts. For small parts, like nuts or bolts, a poly bag is a great option.
We can seal the poly bags with heat seals or zip – locks. Heat – sealed bags offer a more secure closure, while zip – lock bags are more convenient for repeated access.
Poly bags are lightweight, which can help reduce shipping costs. They’re also transparent in most cases, so the customer can see the parts inside. We can add labels directly to the poly bags, providing information like part numbers, quantities, and customer details.
The main downside of poly bag packaging is that it doesn’t offer much protection against impacts. It’s mainly good for protecting the parts from dust and dirt. So, for more delicate parts, we usually combine poly bag packaging with other protective materials.
5. Vacuum Packaging
Vacuum packaging is a high – tech option that’s great for certain types of custom stamped parts. With this method, we place the parts in a special plastic bag and then use a vacuum machine to remove the air from the bag. This creates a tight seal around the parts.
Vacuum packaging is ideal for parts that are prone to oxidation or rusting. By removing the air, we reduce the presence of oxygen, which slows down the oxidation process. It also protects the parts from moisture and dust.
For parts that need to be stored for a long time, vacuum packaging is a great choice. The parts can be kept in a sealed environment for months or even years without getting damaged.
But vacuum packaging has its limitations. It requires special equipment, which can be expensive. And it’s not suitable for all part shapes and sizes. Some large or oddly – shaped parts might not fit well in the vacuum bags.
Choosing the Right Packaging Method
When it comes to choosing the right packaging method for our custom stamped parts, there are a few factors to consider.
First off, we need to think about the part itself. How fragile is it? What’s its shape and size? For example, if we have a delicate, thin – walled stamped part, we might want to go with foam tray packaging or vacuum packaging. If it’s a small, simple part like a spacer, poly bag or blister packaging could be sufficient.
The quantity of parts also matters. For large – volume orders, tray or box packaging might be more efficient. For small orders or samples, blister or poly bag packaging could be a better fit.
Shipping distance is another important factor. If the parts are going to be shipped long distances, we need more robust packaging, like corrugated cardboard boxes with plenty of cushioning. For local shipments, less – protective packaging might be okay.

Cost is always a consideration. We want to find a packaging solution that offers good protection without breaking the bank. Sometimes, a combination of different packaging methods can be the most cost – effective option.
